I’m starting to collect parts to build a webcam telescope. Concept is really simple: connect a 35mm telescopic lens to a webcam sensor:
The 35mm lens is designed to create a image big enough to cover the surface of a 35mm piece of film (lets say very roughly 1″ square). The webcam sensor is quite a bit smaller than that, so it will already automatically enlarge what the lens sees.
This is the same effect as putting a standard 35mm lens on a DSLR with an APS sensor except the sensor is even smaller so the magnification is greater.
I question how well this is really going to work, but it’s a pretty simple project and I’ve already got everything I need except the lens mount. I just found that on ebay for $12, so once it arrives from China….
