Calibrate New 3D Printer Filament

This is the process I follow to record the necessary specs for a new spool of 3D printer filament. Most important is determining the proper nozzle temp. Make note of type of filament (PLA or ABS) and the published diameter … Continue reading

Restoring Your Repetier Configuration from a Backup

While I had my workshop, where I use my 3D printer, tore apart for remodeling I decided to upgrade the workshop PC to windows 7. As I was rebuilding the apps for the PC I realized I had never made … Continue reading

Design an Acrylic Box and Have Ponoko.com Lasercut It

I have kicked around the idea of trying to buy or build a laser cutter for the past year. My primary reason for having one is to create acrylic boxes for electronics projects. Though I can 3D print project boxes, … Continue reading

Another Successful 3D Print

The magnetic reed switch I put on my gate sensor has been problematic. There are several inches of play between on and off. Since the reed switch is on the hinge side of a 20′ gate, that translates into the … Continue reading

Arduino 3D Printed Case

Progress on 3D printing for the last 2 weeks has been terrible. I converted from printing with ABS filament to PLA. Nearly every print of any reasonable size (e.g. bigger than a small test cube) has resulted in a jammed … Continue reading

Some good 3D prints

Used ABS juice on the print bed this evening and the results were dramatic. In the past not a single ABS print attempt has stuck directly to the bed (it has had to be covered in blue painter’s tape). Every … Continue reading

3D Printed Raspberry Pi Case for sensorMonitor

I managed to print a temporary case for the Raspberry Pi that manages the UDP packets coming from the motion detector (sends emails and provides a web based log). I spent last week trying to print in ABS plastic. It … Continue reading

My First 3D Print!

I printed my first 3D print tonight. It’s not perfect (the first layer is really messed up which you can kind of see in the pic), but it isn’t too bad. Hopefully just a little tweaking and I’ve got it.
